When it comes to using a junk removal company, you can pretty much throw almost anything into the dumpster and know that it will be appropriately taken care of. The keywords, however, are ‘almost anything’.
Junk removal companies can take care of a lot of things, but there are some that they simply cannot take. Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of this fact, and they may include items that we can’t take. When this happens, it can put our junk removers at risk and cause problems in an otherwise unproblematic removal job.
Some things that aren’t allowed are obvious. Junk removers are trained and qualified to remove a lot of different things from a home or property, but there are some things that just aren’t safe for the removers, no matter how well-trained they are.
Other things that aren’t allowed may not be as obvious. Paint, for example, is one such thing. Many people don’t think of paint as a hazardous material, but junk removers cannot take it with the rest of your things.
Within each category below, you’ll find a short list of items that a junk removal company cannot take when they come for your stuff.
Again, paint cannot be taken by a junk removal company. Similarly, they cannot take propane, kerosene, or paint thinner.
Junk removal companies cannot take many chemicals that are used in plant and lawn care. This includes fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and rodent killers. If you have a pool, you should also note that pool chemicals are another thing that cannot be taken.
Cleaners and chemicals used for household care and cleaning can’t be taken by junk removers. This includes drain cleaners, ammonia, bleach, oven cleaners, floor cleaners, and aerosol cans. Batteries are also included in this list and require a special disposal method.
Whether you’re a motor enthusiast or only do basic maintenance on your own vehicle, it’s important to note that a junk removal company cannot take many things used in vehicle and motor care.
Antifreeze, brake fluid, motor oils, gasoline, and radiator cleaners can’t be taken by your junk removers.
Within your home or business, you likely have a variety of miscellaneous things that, unfortunately, cannot be taken by a junk removal company. These include appliances that use freon (freezers, AC units, and refrigerators), radioactive waste, explosives (such as fireworks and ammunition), asbestos, medical waste, or anything that falls under “Special Waste” limitations set by state or federal laws.
Any chemical products and cleaners cannot be taken either. Whether it’s a household cleaning product, a vehicle care product, or a pest prevention product, chemicals and solvents are hazardous to removal staff and can’t be included with your regular junk removal. Pressurized containers are also included in this list.
Most of the items a junk removal company can’t take require special disposal methods. Some junk removers will take certain items at an additional cost, but many will refuse the items due to the extra cost and hassle on their end.
If you have an item that a junk removal company can’t take, don’t try to hide it within the pile of junk and hope they’ll take it anyway. This can be dangerous for the staff and cause issues later on. Instead, ask the company how you can dispose of the items or contact your local dump and see what options are available to you there.
Alan De La O was highly academical in high school. Having taken over 14 college courses throughout his high school journey, college was his destiny. However, while in high school he learned to work in the construction industry as a carpenter and painter and enjoyed swinging a hammer and painting walls more than solving equations. He slowly started losing interest in college, especially after seeing the tuition costs. Having worked in the construction industry for over 2 years he decided to take a risk and start a business, right after high school, along with his brother Juan De La O and help those in the construction industry along with homeowners. This is where World of Dumpsters was born.
